Apply for the Ecology-Justice Student Fellowship: Reporting on civics and sustainability action in the Garden State

CivicStory is offering Ecology-Justice Reporting Fellowships for undergraduate college students, February–May 2024.

CivicStory’s Ecology-Justice Reporting Project (SRhub.org) is a collaborative effort to amplify civic actions taken to restore healthy ecosystems and a thriving, inclusive democracy.

Participating Fellows will:

  • produce one blog post (400–500 words) and two explanatory news stories (600–1,000 words)

  • attend three orientation and learning/training sessions held over Zoom (70 mins. each)

  • learn from experts in civics, sustainability, ecology, health, and environmental justice fields 

  • receive stipends of $200 per piece, and $300 for attending all three training sessions and completing all reporting by May 16, 2024

Articles, videos, audio, or photo journalism pieces by Ecology-Justice Fellows will first be published by their campus newspaper, then shared with CivicStory to be published on SRhub.org. This program provides self-motivated, passionate student journalists with expertise, insight, new contacts, and myriad story ideas about regenerative activity and civic learning on campus, in their county of residence, or beyond.

What will be reported on?

Topics might include restoring biodiversity; 'no-waste' initiatives; food access & plant-forward diets; civic education initiatives; first-time voting; Constitution issues; no-till farming; soil regeneration; environmental justice; composting; converting lawns to native flora; the cooling of urban heat islands; micro-forests; and more.
