NOW HIRING: Multimedia Journalist to Launch Statewide Media Collaborative
Job Position: Project Manager, New Jersey Sustainability Reporting Hub
CivicStory, the Center for Cooperative Media, the Alliance for New Jersey Environmental Education and other New Jersey-based educational nonprofits are collaborating on a statewide Sustainability Reporting Hub. The Sustainability Reporting Hub founding members seek a project manager to coordinate the pilot phase of this project from June 1, 2019 to Jan 31, 2020. Contingent upon longer-term funding and project assessment by Nov. 1, the position may be extended.
The project manager will work closely with CivicStory’s creative director and the Sustainability Reporting Hub advisory team to build a statewide media collaborative that changes the relationship of news and sustainability action. The project manager will coordinate the selection of reporting fellows, communicate with participating newsrooms, set publication schedule and goals, and provide service and support to a broad circle of participants and partners. The role requires a multimedia journalist or editor with superior communication, organizational and technical skills and a passion for environmental sustainability. The successful candidate is self-motivated, flexible, and forward-thinking, and delights in drawing together diverse teams. Weekly workload is expected around 20 hours. Compensation is $18,000 for 8-month pilot. Position could evolve as funding materializes.
Manage the fellowship application process.
Schedule and coordinate training sessions and itinerary.
Track reporting fellows’ reporting assignments and publication dates.
Oversee successful launch of pilot phase of a two-year reporting collaborative.
Build relationships with news partners, journalism schools, and university broadcasting programs.
Broaden awareness of Sustainability Reporting Hub through outreach to diverse community, business, and educational leaders; track audience growth metrics and use data to develop social media strategy.
Engage other newsrooms and audiences through email-based distribution of content.
Support the entire team’s efforts to cultivate sponsor, foundation, and donor relationships.
Schedule and guide project committee meetings as needed.
Qualifications and capabilities
Passion for empowering citizens of all backgrounds to participate in sustainable living and community building.
Excellent writing and analytical skills.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Multimedia and social media skills; knowledge of digital content management systems.
Three to four years of experience in journalism, assignment editing, and/or editing.
Available to begin work in early June 2019.
This position will have a flexible schedule.
Residence in New Jersey strongly preferred.
Reports to CivicStory’s executive director with dotted line to Sustainability Reporting Hub advisory team.
Will need to attend CivicStory bi-monthly board meetings (evening).
Attendance also needed at Institute for Nonprofit News, New Jersey sustainability, and regional journalism forums.
Salary is anticipated at $18,000 for 8 months, averaging 20 hours a week, to be prorated and extended as needed.
