Public Forum - Financing Our Future: Balancing Education, Environment, Pensions, & Taxes as Caring Communities
Five expert speakers from the fields of finance, engineering, environmental justice, ethics, and theology discussed the challenges of balancing the NJ state budget. Co-moderated by Lisa Allen of HomeTowne TV and George Lucaci of Mercury Capital Advisors, the conversation included environmental dangers in view of recent flooding in Newark, risks of tax rates and school funding costs relative to neighboring states, the need for financial restructuring, and the power of grass roots collaboration. "We need centers of community dialogue," said Rev. Chuck Rush; "it's not just about money," said Nicole Miller, of Newark D.I.G. (doing infrastructure green), "but humanity and justice."
